As well as being responsible for the running of Gidleigh Park and Amberley Castle, and the rebuilding of the Royal Clarence/ABode Exeter, which was destroyed by fire in October 2016, John Badley also oversees the Imperial Hotel in Torquay, owned by the Brownsword family. He was awarded the Chief Fire Officers Commendation for the role he played in leading staff and guests to safety during the blaze.
After starting his career in 1998 as a chef de partie at the Savoy Hotel, Badley went on to work in kitchens operated by Gordon Ramsay Holdings and Macdonald Hotels, before spending a year as chef director at Scandic Hotels in Sweden in 2008/9. On returning to the UK, he took up his first management role as deputy general manager at De Vere and was later promoted to general manager.
Later positions include GM designate at Principal Hayley and general manager at Dalhousie Castle Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh, before taking up the role of general manager at the Royal Clarence/ABode Exeter in June 2016. He was promoted to his current position in January 2017.
